Hello New England Chapter Members,
My name is Juna (pronounced “Gee-na”) Pierre. In December 2017, I started thinking about my professional development as an HR practitioner, which included the need to grow my network of HR leaders of color. I decided to do a Google search and found the National Association of African Americans in Human Resources (NAAAHR). After some cyber-sleuthing, I learned that there were many chapters associated with NAAAHR but nothing in the Boston area. “How could this be?” I asked myself. Boston has a large number of HR people of African descent who, like me, love the work we do and would love to be part of a community like NAAAHR.
After reaching out via LinkedIn, I was fortunate to be joined by a team of amazing women willing to partner with me to see this work come to fruition. Together, we decided to increase the scope of our support beyond Boston, to the New England area. I am thankful for this team, and truly grateful that they have allowed me to lead us on this journey.
When I think about my tenure as the President of the New England chapter, the four things I want to achieve are:
1. To create a space for HR professionals of African descent to come together and support each other’s career development and growth;
2. To partner with local organizations to create a more diverse HR workforce;
3. To develop partnerships with other professional associations committed to advancing the careers of People of Color working in all fields; and
4. To use the NAAAHR platform to give back to the communities where our members live and work.
I am excited about the possibility of working with you as part of NAAAHR New England!
