Best Practices for Supporting Transgender and Gender Nonconforming Employees

The goal of this session is to discuss best practices for supporting candidates and employees who identify as transgender or gender nonconforming, a review of definitions and pronouns will occur. There will be a discussions around best practices for recruiting including; appropriate pronounces in job descriptions, training for hiring managers, and partners who can be part of the sourcing process, like GLSEN (www.glsen.org). The second part of the discussion will look at supports for employees who join us already identifying as transgender or gender conforming or employee who transition during the course of their employment. We will look at facilities (bathrooms), policies for employees who transitioned verses employees who haven’t “officially” transitioned therefore they do not have a social security number that matches their new name. We will also look at how to prepare the workforce for addressing and respecting these employees.
